Since the breaking news of ex-NBA star Lamar Odom being found unconscious, there have been more media posts and social media jokes than I can handle. Unfortunately too much of Lamar’s personal life has played out on national television for all to vicariously live through yet mock him at the same time.
Shortly after the world found out about Lamar’s drug addiction, the news went viral and the rumors and jokes began to muster. I was always upset about it because I have family members that have, and still are struggling with the disease of addiction. Yes, you heard me say it correctly; disease. I don’t know the ins and outs of the help Lamar has received, or the lack thereof, but in no way, shape or form is this something he’s trying to do to himself.
Most people who struggle with drug abuse understand the consequences of their actions but their addiction, or disease of the mind, prevents them from making sound judgement and decisions.
I literally cringe at the comments and jokes being made at this time. People are so rude in situations like this until it hits home for them. I am praying for his full recovery and healing and I hope you do the same.
